  3. Any enterprise or organization can achieve operational excellence if and only if they are clear not only about their objectives but also about the methods or tactics employed to realize those objectives. Let us look at how information system helps organizations to achieve operational excellence.

An information system is any combination of information technology and people's activities using that technology to support operations, management, and decision making. If an organization wants to gain operational excellence, they will use information system to visualize and strategize their organization, they need to visualize the kind of business entity that they want to be in the future and then strategize the course of action to make their vision a reality. Information system is needed because this plan of action needs to be constantly reviewed and evaluated for any scope of improvement and information system can do so with a systematic arrangement.

As organizations grow, the amount of data also increases. As a result, it becomes more difficult to process this data manually. With the use of Information System, data can be processed with rapid speed and information is generated quickly. Problem solving is done throughout the organization by focusing on the needs of the customer, and optimizing existing activities in the process. But, in order to get quick results and timely information, an Information System is used in almost all organizations to organize their data in order to solve problems and this will make the organization gain operational excellence.

To run an organization successfully, effective and timely, decision making is very important. This decision making is based on the information organization get from the stored data. Indirectly, information system helps in improving team to work efficiency it also improves work coordination and cooperation with team members in the organization. Thus, the entire organization should function as a team and work towards making the transition smooth and successful. As we know, operational excellence stresses the need to continually improve by promoting a stronger teamwork atmosphere. Safety and quality improvements for employees and customers lead towards becoming a better organization. For that to happen, organizations need to use information system to eliminate the concept of creating or functioning as multiple entities and help organization to work efficiently in a team.

An Information System also helps provide the required information in a complete and comprehensive way. It helps in taking effective decisions about the business. In such a system, the information can be sent to many people in less time. Hence assessing and evaluating will be done smoothly with the help of information system an enterprise can to assess its present state, which includes its work processes, capabilities of its workforce and management systems. Such an evaluation helps in enhancing the plan of action to achieve operational excellence.

In conclusion, Information systems are the foundation for conducting organizations today. In many industries, survival and even existence without extensive use of IT is inconceivable, and IT plays a critical role in increasing productivity. Although information technology has become more of a commodity, when coupled with complementary changes in organization and management, it can help organization gain operational excellence and it will help organization with foundation of ways in conducting their organization and it also helps provide firms with a strategic advantage in every aspect.

  5. To achieve operational excellence, organizations will need to develop a matured capability for accurately identifying stakeholders needs, defining those processes that employees will have to follow to meet those needs, developing employees capability to carry out those well defined processes that meets the needs of its stakeholders, fueling those business processes with timely, accurate and relevant information data, and supporting them with the right information technology for their effective and
    efficient performance.

This also meant that, organizations must be able to effectively and efficiently manage and leverage its key business value pillars of people, process, information and technology to meet the needs of its customers and be able to do so continuously.

The need for operational excellence, organizations today are seeking to be operationally excellent for three key reasons: costs, customers and competitions (the 3 C’s of operational Excellence). They are continuously seeking for the best ways to achieve operational excellence (lower operational cost, improve flexibility and speed to market, quality and reliability, and customer satisfaction value) in order to be profitable and win against competition.

Operational excellence is the bedrock of business growth, profitability and competitive advantage. A organizations can only begin to forge new growth strategies and business models after it has developed a matured capability for managing its current business operations effectively and efficiently in the course of meeting the needs of its customer’s or stakeholders, as nobody grows a business on an unstable foundation. In addition, by effectively analyzing and managing business operations, organizations can create the right products with the right features at the right cost. Achieving operational excellence is a continuous improvement process and not a one-time event.
An organization rests on the foundations of people, process, information and technology or infrastructure the four business value pillars), to carry out its management and business functions or activities in order to meet the needs of its customers.

For organizations to achieve operational excellence, they must continuously look for new and rational ways (strategies, capabilities, methodologies, and solutions) to enable the continuous effective and efficient management (optimization, transformation and control) and leverage of their business value pillars or resources of people, process, information and technology to meet their customer needs.

Conclusion, information systems help organization to achieve operational excellence is whereby improve its supply chain management, sales and distribution capabilities and use IT as a strategic enabler for its business strategy. This included migration to a nimbler outsourcing model that would generate value through agility and support business initiatives and maintenance of its SAP ERP system.

Information systems can help keep track of data for clients in organizations of any size. This can be anything from simple databases to large server networks holding hundreds of terabytes of information. So in what unique ways can information technologies help organizations? Let’s say you are in charge of a local historical society in a small town. Information systems can help you store this data for prosperity and help you provide it to the public. This will in effect draw people to your organization through website and also help you store priceless information for years to come. For a business, information technologies can helps expand their business and increase individual productivity. These systems allow for monitoring of the input and output of data which then can be used to monitor productivity across the business as a whole

  12. An information system (IS) is any combination of information technology and people's activities using that technology to support operations, management, and decision-making. In any business organization, data is the most important thing. Different type of information is produced from data. When the amount of data is large, it becomes more difficult to process this data manually. In order to get quick results and timely information, an Information System is used in almost all organizations.
Technology and Pc-Based .To achieve improvement in productivity and yield by pushing processes closer to operating constraints. Over the years has been the emergence of PC-based tools for a variety of functions , including data analysis Microsoft excel, for examples, is widely deployed in many plants.
The ERP Systems .ERP systems have indeed achieved benefits in operational excellence, but they have also incurred large investment costs—costs so large, in fact, that companies are today reluctant to repeat the experience. The ERP systems have also established some important standards which customers expect suppliers in the manufacturing space to emulate. Integration Technologies and Standards to solve to the complexities of the integration of different business systems.
information technology (IT) .departments have sometimes selected enterprise application integration (EAI) technologies. EAI suppliers such as IBM, web Methods and TIBCO have developed powerful “integration stacks” specifically designed to make systems integration easier and more reliable. While these general integration technologies do not necessarily take advantage of some of the particular characteristics of the process industries, they have brought some potential order to the technology environment for process manufacturers. Order is very much required—but lack of order and lack of standards characterize the current environment.

  13. 1.Implementing Operational Excellence can be challenging for any organization. As a new management philosophy, the impact can be significant and necessitate cultural, organizational and system. To achieve operational excellence an organization should know its objective in term of operational areas in which it needs to focus its customer for excellence. For example, the organization can stand out from its competition by getting food to the counter quicker, then the key operational excellence lies somewhere between the kitchen an the service counter and the supply chain of ingredients. If a company is trying to offer an outstanding experience to the customer, then it will focus its efforts on improving service. For auto components the focus is increasingly on managing the costs of complexity as the need of new products and the resultant product and component proliferation replace costs derived from scale as the primary focus for operational excellence.

To achieve true Operational Excellence, the organization needs a flexible, integrated and holistic approach leverages open technologies and enables incremental improvements across the operations over time, minimizing risk and ensuring return on investment. For many businesses which are in the process of implementing new ways of working there will be the inevitable challenge around whether the business is following the right path as the sense of urgency quickens. It is right for businesses to remain prudent. However it might also be the most opportune time to adopt learn and implement operational excellence. If driven appropriately, even in this downturn a company can gain competitive advantage and emerge as a more agile player when upturn comes.

Actually operational excellence is not simply about doing the same better. It stems from the way the business is set up or structured and how the work is executed on a day to day basis to leverage what the company does best. The operational excellence is a journey not a destination. So, to achieve the operational in the organization they must revisit decisions about structure and execution regularly to achieve the flexibility and leanness needed to respond to a changing business environment.

Besides that to help organizations achieve operational excellence,SAP is offering natively integrated industry processes on one open platform planned for delivery in late 2008.Built on an enterprise service-oriented architecture, these modular industry processes allow companies to specialize in their chosen strategic role with increased flexibility and efficiency while also collaborating with their business partners.

  14. Information system is component of a technology such hardware, software, and organize infrastructure that use by trained personnel in decision making, planning, and controlling. Information system help the organization achieve the operational excellence by improving the leadership in the organization and also the teamwork within the employer and employee. Problem solving also become easier by refer to information system because it has the right information and better outcome in decision making. Other than that the rapid development in information technology gives way to application types that simply were not feasible just a few years ago. In result the organization achieve operational system by continuous improvement, focus need of the customer, empowering employees, and optimizing the existing activities in the process.

  15. Information system can help organization to achieve operational excellence in a several ways. Firstly, IT is the effective and efficient delivery of it service that add measurable value in business. In this matter, in using information system it can help the organization will become more effective in management.
Secondly, IT systems are enablers of the business processes that help law firms meet their goals. Means by used IT, the laws in firms will easy to meet their goal in organization. In this matter, automatically the profit in organization will become increase by this system. For examples, by this system, the organization will easy to manage their business where the organization can increase revenues and decrease coasts.
Thirdly, IT can help organization to achieve operational excellence by Deliver legal services efficiently and effectively. Means, they rely on knowledge management tools such as portals and document management systems to easier the organization system. IT supports this through providing laws firms such as highly available systems that are supported by refined and repeatable processes and by technology efficiently operated by well-trained people.
The other ways to help organization to achieve operational excellence is IT can Increase personal productivity. In this matter, IT will help the employee to achieve more efficient and effective levels of productivity by implementing technologies that enable collaboration, bridging geographic boundaries (e.g., video conferencing, unified messaging, mobility devices, instant messaging, and presence management). IT will be building and delivering those services that truly aid in the businesses.
Lastly, Improve employee satisfaction with their day-to-day jobs. Means, IT will help in satisfaction, and when staff cannot access the systems they need frustration prevails by this system. Besides that, the employees also can improve their Quality works in organization.

  16. The information systems are played important role towards the operational excellence within an organization. The supplier, customer, and organization develop to a operational excellence as well as in terms of enterprise systems(ERP),supply chain management systems and customer relation management(CRM).

An organization the effectively communication will help the business operation to be successful.Communication among all departments and all users of information within a company will make the company to build their business analysis whereby, throughout the communication all departments the organization can gain the more information in their decision making process.

Beside that the operational excellence occur within an organization with the applying the supply chain management systems where this help the organization in terms of coordinate planning, production and logistics with supplier. To make the operation to be successful the organization should make the planning first to make sure all material enough to produce a something products.Beside that take a look into production in term of what the technology to used to produce the products.

An organization the supplier are supportive in terms of sending and delivering process. The stocks or products which that already have and in still processing are the supplier responsibility to make it often accurate with the demands of organization.

The supply chain management systems which includes all of the internal factors of an organization along with supplier, distributor, retailers and customer, they all intertwined and rely on information from
each others. To effectively meet the business objectives and also can provide information up and down the chain and help organization involved do a better forecasting.Through this the organizational can create a new strategy to enhance of their business operation in the future.

  17. Increase profits. It can help to increase revenue by implementing systems and processes that more accurately capture time or allow staff to bill more (i.e., adding remote functionality, decreasing the time spent on administrative tasks, decreasing network downtime). It can help decrease costs by streamlining the delivery and support of services, streamlining the services offered, and ensuring projects and purchases are truly in support of the firm’s overall goals.

Deliver legal services efficiently and effectively. To provide legal services, attorneys must bring together vast amounts of information. They rely on knowledge management tools such as portals, document management systems, and search engines. The information system approach explicitly supports the delivery of such services in an efficient and effective manner. “Effective operation” is code for providing the right services at the right time. “Efficient operation” is directly linked to providing those services cost competitively. Information system supports this through providing law firms with well engineered solutions that deliver highly available services to support business productivity (e.g., document management systems that are available 24/7, enabling attorneys to work whenever, wherever. Other than that, it is highly available systems that are supported by refined and repeatable processes and by technology efficiently operated by well-trained people.

Ensure proper use of investment and operating funds. Being able to answer the question “Why does information system cost so much?” with an appropriate level of granularity (e.g., by information system service, by practice area, by location) will help you make better investment decisions and have a sound basis for such analyses as TCO and ROI. The firm will be able to say no to services when the costs outweigh the benefits. Being able to make such calculations is part of the ITSM component of IT Operational Excellence.

Increase staff productivity (time is money). It will help achieving more efficient and effective levels of productivity by implementing technologies that enable collaboration, bridging geographic boundaries (e.g., video conferencing, unified messaging, mobility devices, instant messaging, and presence management). IT will be building and delivering those services that truly aid in the business’ ability to deliver external service or product. Operationally, IT will know what services are most important to the business and will be able to effectively prioritize and provide support that meets the business’ stated requirements.

Improve employee satisfaction with their day-to-day jobs. Retaining the investment you have in your employees helps decrease costs (by not having to hire and train new staff) and improves employee morale. Many factors contribute to job satisfaction, and when staff cannot access the systems they need when they need them, frustration prevails. Information system emphasis on sound engineering and supporting processes can help an organization deliver the right services at the right time to the right people, thus enhancing user/employee satisfaction on a day-to-day basis. Not only will there be less unexpected service disruption, but communication channels will be improved and staff will have insight in to what is changing, what to expect, and how to request and communicate their needs.

  18. Information systems can help organizations to achieve operational excellence in a way that facilitates the work of employees of an organization in achieving the objectives of the organization. This is because the system is very important information in an organization. For example, information systems can be stored in a computer. Thus, the work of the employee of an organization will not be lost. In addition, information such as computer system can also save a lot of data organization. It can store data such as employee data, data, profits and losses and to keep the information confidential for a company. For example, Malaysia Airlines System information can be stored in a computer without the need to bring all the data and how the management of organizations such as booking tickets. In addition, the Computer is very important in an organization such as Malaysia Airlines for all data stored in the computer and thus easier for many people around the world who want to know the development of Malaysia Airlines by searching on the Internet only to facilitate the organization's operations. Thus, computer information systems as essential to an organization in achieving operational excellence.

  19. Operational Excellence is the effective and efficient delivery of information technology services that add measurable value to a business. There are many ways that information systems can help organizations reach operational excellence. The first element of this is well-engineered systems. Information systems are implemented within an organization for the purpose of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of that organization. The many capabilities of the information system and characteristics of the organization, its work systems, its people, and its development and implementation methodologies together determine the extent to which that purpose is achieved.

Well engineered information systems incorporate an appropriate level of security. IT security is multi-faceted and includes Confidentiality where data is protected from unauthorized access and use, Integrity which ensures accurate and complete data, Availability where data is available when needed and Privacy where confidentiality and integrity of information related to individuals is kept safe. Secure, high quality systems engineered according to industry and regulatory standards are also operated and managed effectively and efficiently.

An information system contains Enterprise Systems or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems which is a suite of integrated software modules and a common central database. This software system collects data from many divisions of firm for use in nearly all of firm’s internal business activities. It also comes with a Customer relationship management (CRM) system which captures and integrates customer data from all over the organization.

Other parts of an information system include Information and supply chain management which reduces inefficiencies that cut into a company’s operating costs.

There is also the option of next generation enterprise applications solutions or suites that have the capability of replacing stand-alone enterprise, CRM, SCM systems.

Lastly, operational excellence methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma (often combined as Lean Six Sigma) are used in many industries such as health care, manufacturing, and others to help eliminate waste, increase quality, boost productivity, and bring new products to market more quickly.

In conclusion, an information system although very expensive will outweigh its own cost by providing an organization with all the necessary tools to achieve operational excellence.

This helps us to terminate problem employees and to view who is doing their best at an individual level to better improve business.

The best way to do this is to attend a college or university that offers a diverse course background so that student can utilize all the tools in the trade. The amount of programming languages and other knowledge needed for this task is large so going through a diverse program that offers knowledge in all areas. This will help you acquire the best job placement after student finished study.

No matter if people are looking to enter a new job market or improve any organization there is always a way to do it with informational technologies. The best way to equip knowledge as a future employee is to complete a reputable degree program in business information systems. This will give us the best tools not only as an employee but can also help employers choose the right person for them. The field and the solutions it offers are always expanding so it’s best to get a leap into it now.

  21. Information system is, set of interrelated components that collect, process, store and distribute information to control, coordination and support decision making. From the definition or function above. Information system can help organization take the accurate information. Example, in an organization which produce the clothes, using information system their marketing department can gate the costumer needs and wants clothes design through the survey. Than this information process in the organization. Than, the organization produce the clothes that can fulfill the costumer satisfaction, so this organization can perform their operation with excellence using the information system.

  23. Operation excellence is the quality of been exceptionally good at creating happy and loyal customers or meeting stakeholders needs. To achieve operational excellence, organizations must do an excellent job of managing and leveraging these four value pillars to create customers. The information systems however can help organization to achieve operational excellence by integrating and coordinating diverse functions and business processes in the firm. Around the global, companies are increasingly becoming more connected, both internally and with other companies. Information systems provide the integration to make this possible. The enterprise systems, or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, integrate the key internal business processes of a firm into a single software system.

The information system also help organization to achieve operational excellence by demonstrate how supply chain management systems coordinate planning, production, and logistics with suppliers. Supply chain management refers to the coordination of activities and involved in making and moving a product. The supply chain is the network of businesses and business processes involved the creation and selling of a product, from suppliers that procure raw materials through retail outlets and customers. Therefore, the upstream portion of the supply chain includes the organization's suppliers and the processes for managing relationships with them and the downstream portion consists of the organizations and processes for distributing and delivering products to the final customers.

Not only that, operational excellence also can be achieve by looking on how customer relationship management systems achieve customer intimacy by integrating all customer information and making it available throughout the firm. The information system used to identify enterprise systems and their use in business. Therefore, whenever new information is entered by one process, the information is made available immediately to other business processes which a good business processes can lead to operational excellence.

  28. An information system is a collection of hardware, software, data, people and procedures that are designed to generate information that supports the day-to-day, short-range, and long-range activities of users in an organization. Information systems can help organizations to achieve operational excellence by using five main types of information system more efficiency. Firstly is a transaction processing systems. A transaction processing system (TPS) is an information system that captures and processes data generated during an organization’s day-to-day transactions This system help an organization to recording a business activity such as a student’s registration, a customer’s order, an employee’s timecard or a client’s payment, confirming an action or triggering a response, such as printing a student’s schedule, sending a thank-you note to a customer, generating an employee’s paycheck or issuing a receipt to a client, and maintaining data, which involves adding new data, changing existing data, or removing unwanted data.
Next is Decision Support Systems. Decision support systems are transaction processing and management information systems provide information on a regular basic. Decision supports systems help provide information to support such decisions. DSS help an organization reach a decision when a decision-making situation arises. A variety of DSSs exist to help with a range of decisions.
Next is with Office Information Systems. An office information system is an information system that uses hardware, software and networks to enhance work flow and facilitate communications among employees. Win an office information system, also described as office automation; employees perform tasks electronically using computers and other electronic devices, instead of manually.
Next is by Management Information Systems. Using this information, the related management information system can produce reports that recap daily sales activities; list customers with past due account balances; graph slow or fast selling products; and highlight inventory items that need reordering. A management information system focuses on generating information that management and other users need to perform their jobs.
The last one is by Expert Systems. An expert system is an information system that captures and stores the knowledge of human experts and then imitates human reasoning and decision-making processes for those who have less expertise
For the conclusion, if an organization can apply that system in their organization more efficiency, an information system surely can help an organization to achieve their excellent operation.

  29. Information systems have become integral, online, interactive tools deeply
involved in the minute-to-minute operations and decision making of large
organizations. Over the last decade, information systems have fundamentally
altered the economics of organizations and greatly increased the possibilities
for organizing work. Theories and concepts from economics and sociology help
us understand the changes brought about by IT.

From the point of view of economics, IT changes both the relative costs of
capital and the costs of information. Information systems technology can be
viewed as a factor of production that can be substituted for traditional capital
and labor. As the cost of information technology decreases, it is substituted for
labor, which historically has been a rising cost. Hence, information technology
should result in a decline in the number of middle managers and clerical
workers as information technology substitutes for their labor (Laudon, 1990).
As the cost of information technology decreases, it also substitutes for other
forms of capital, such as buildings and machinery, which remain relatively
expensive. Hence, over time we should expect managers to increase their
investments in IT because of its declining cost relative to other capital
    investments.
IT also obviously affects the cost and quality of information and changes the
economics of information. Information technology helps firms contract in size
because it can reduce transaction costs—the costs incurred when a firm buys
on the marketplace what it cannot make itself. According to transaction cost
theory, firms and individuals seek to economize on transaction costs, much as
    they do on production costs. Using markets is expensive (Coase, 1937;
Williamson, 1985) because of costs such as locating and communicating with
distant suppliers, monitoring contract compliance, buying insurance, obtaining
information on products, and so forth.

  30. As we know information systems are very important in our daily life same goes to organization information systems can achieve operational excellence due information systems are a foundation for conducting business today. Information systems have become essential for helping organizations operate in a global economy. Organizations are trying to become more competitive and efficient by transforming themselves into digital firms where nearly all core business processes and relationships with customers, suppliers, and employees are digitally enabled. Businesses today use information systems to achieve objectives such as operational excellence, new products, services and business models.
In a technical perspective an information system collects, stores, and disseminates information from an organization’s environment and internal operations to support organizational functions and decision making, communication, coordination, control, analysis and visualization. Information systems transform raw data into useful information through three basic activities input, processing, and output. From a business perspective an information system provides a solution to a problem or challenge facing a firm and provides real economic value to the business.

A business process is a logically related set of activities that define how specific business tasks are performed and a business can be viewed as a collection of business processes. Business processes are concrete workflows of material, information, and knowledge. They also represent unique ways in which organizations coordinate work, information and knowledge and the ways in which management chooses to coordinate work. Managers need to pay attention to business processes because they determine how well the organization can execute its business, and thus be a potential source of strategic success or failure. Although each of the major business functions has its own set of business processes, many other business processes are cross-functional, such as order fulfillment. Information systems can help organizations achieve greater efficiencies by automating parts of these processes or by helping organizations redesign and streamline them. Firms can become more flexible and efficient by coordinating their business processes closely and in some cases integrating these processes so they are focused on efficient management of resources and customer service.

In addition information systems supporting the major business functions example like sales and marketing, finance and accounting and human resources. At each level of the organization, information systems support the major functional areas of the business. Sales and marketing systems help the firm identify customers for the firm’s products or services, develop products and services to meet customers needs, promote the products and services, sell the products and services and provide ongoing customer support. Manufacturing and production systems deal with the planning, development, and production of products or services and control the flow of production. Finance and accounting systems keep track of the firm’s financial assets and fund flows. Human resources systems maintain employee records, track employee skills, job performance, and training, and support planning for employee compensation and career development.

In conclusion technology and information system will help achieve operational excellence is entering the market now. With increasing pressure from shareholders, customers and even employees to ensure the business performs to the stated goals, these technologies can help achieve a level of collaboration and excellence not seen in the past. Even with cost pressures these technologies can help organizations achieve the operational excellence they need with their existing resources as long as they act now.

  31. Information systems can help organizations to achieve operational excellence. So any enterprise or organization can achieve operational excellence if and only if they are clear not only about their objectives but also about the methods or tactics employed to realize those objectives. To achieve operational excellence first is visualize and strategies. At first the enterprise or organization needs to visualize the kind of business entity that it wants to be in the future and then strategize a course of action to make that vision a reality. However, this plan of action needs to be constantly reviewed and evaluated for any scope of improvement.Second is assess and evaluate. The enterprise needs to assess its present state, which includes its work processes, capabilities of its workforce, management systems and so on. Such an evaluation helps in enhancing the plan of action to achieve operational excellence.Lastly, improve work efficiency. It through coordination and cooperation. The entire enterprise and organization should function as a team and work towards making the transition smooth and successful. For that to happen, enterprises and organizations need to eliminate the concept of creating or functioning as multiple entities.

  32. Operational excellence (OE) is a competitive advantage: it translates to increased production flexibility, improved customer responsiveness, and cost minimization. We can advise on all aspects of your business operations to streamline functions and optimize performance. It is believes that businesses (organization) can achieve OE through Information system.
The model that IBM recommends for this type of IT operating environment lays the foundation for establishing an enterprise architecture. By employing sets of well defined, interacting services, the model prescribes and positions
the types of functions and capabilities necessary for organizations to effectively support their business objectives.

The construction of this IT operating environment relies on the concept of services orientation to ensure coverage of all IT functions. The resulting components—most of which are typically defined as services—are a combination of capabilities (hardware, software, and technical expertise) that can be easily and quickly assembled to create solutions for providing businesses with the flexibility, responsiveness and efficiency they need to adapt quickly to changing demands. So, the implementation of Information System within the company affect the work presentation and performance through its accuracy and efficiency which the emphasis is more on providing useful information rather than raw data from a database that still needs processing or analysing to become meaningful.

Beside, Information System also improves and enhance organization excellency by the reducing the time consumed as well as the cost productions. Any project or work delays are not the favorite things to happen inside any business company. While the Information System are used to make the work easier and faster within the company. And it can help businesses speed time to value, reduce costs, scope and manage large projects more easily, and transform the corporate IT infrastructure into a powerful
instrument for driving an organization’s business objectives, indeed.

And obviously, Information System acted as the central distribution of information within the company internally nor externally. The excellent and efficient information distribution among the company members are essential which every information used to excel in the business market. And distribution of information to the outsiders (customers, suppliers, etc) just make the work even burden-less.

  33. 1. Discuss how information systems can help organizations to achieve operational excellence.

Organizations seek to improve the efficiency of their operations in order to achieve higher profitability. Information system and technologies are some of the most important tools available to manager for achieving higher levels of efficiency and productivity in business operations, especially when coupled with changes in business practices and management behaviour. For example, Wal-Mart the largest retailer on Earth, exemplifies the power of information system coupled with brilliant business practices and supportive management to achieve world class operational efficiency. Wall-mart is the most efficient retail store in the industry, achieving sales more than $ 28 per square foot, compared to its closest competitor.

When new information is entered by one process, the information is made available immediately to other business process. Information system support organizational centralization by enforcing uniform data standards and business processes throughout the company and a single unified technology platform. The firm wide data generated by information system help managers evaluate organizational performance.

Using information system to highlight SWOT analysis integrating and coordinating diverse function and business processes in the organizations. The identification of these aspects can help the organization to improve their business processes and operations to achieve operational excellence.

Information system can help achieve operational excellence by improving communication to supplier and optimizing the supply chain. Information can help managers communicate with workers more efficiently enable technological innovation on products, minimize warehouse overhead and streamline distribution.

The new technology that will help achieve operational excellence is entering the market now. With increasing pressure from shareholders, customers and even employees to ensure the business performs to the stated goals, these technologies can help achieve a level of collaboration and excellence not seen in the past. In many cases, the infrastructure is in place. Even with cost pressures these technologies can help organizations achieve the operational excellence they need, with their existing resources.

Lastly, information system can help organization to achieve operational excellence an organization should know its objective in term of operational areas in which it needs to focus its customer for excellence. For example, the organization can stand out from its competition by getting food to the counter quicker, then the key operational excellence lies somewhere between the kitchen and the service counter and the supply chain of ingredients. If a company is trying to offer an outstanding experience to the customer, then it will focus its efforts on improving service. For auto components the focus is increasingly on managing the costs of complexity as the need of new products and the resultant product and component proliferation replace costs derived from scale as the primary focus for operational excellence.

  34. Information system, operational excellence as philosophy of leadership, teamwork and problem solving resulting in continuous improvement throughout the organization by focusing on the needs of the customer, empowering employees and optimizing existing activities in the process. In today’s competitive market, operational excellence is critical for any enterprise or organization to grow profitably. However, operational excellence is not to be confused with business strategy, as it is not a strategy but a means to implement business strategies successfully. An enterprise or organization can be considered to be on the path of achieving operational excellence if it shows, Continuous progress and development over time, Sustained advancement in all areas of importance and Improved performance that is on par or better than the most prominent organizations. In the past, operational excellence was confined to the areas of cost, quality and delivery. As time passed though, new players came onto the scene, regulations became more stringent, the climate became more competitive, and, due to the ever-changing nature of the industry, the areas of importance also underwent changes. Apart from cost, delivery and quality, the other important areas that attained great importance include risk mitigation, productivity, adaptability and rapidity. Greater efficiency and higher levels of effectiveness across diverse operations, without forgoing customer satisfaction, are an important aim of most enterprises. Faster and better performance, smart workers….these words could effectively define the true essence of operational excellence. Operational excellence can easily propel enterprises toward higher profits, make them more competitive and correctly align business goals with their individual technology assets. It is all about ensuring the smooth functioning of the enterprise to provide improved results, driven by the enterprise’s existing objectives. Operational excellence can never end in a single process management program though; it is a continuous process. And because it is a constantly evolving process, improvements through newer techniques and technologies are required. Any enterprise that hopes to achieve operational excellence on a consistent basis needs to ensure that every element within the enterprise’s value chain is constantly functioning to its optimum efficiency. Programs that ensure operational excellence when executed correctly and on a regular basis will bring forth better decision making, greater transparency and improved enterprise performance.

  35. Information system is very useful in the organization daily operation. information systems and organizations influence one another. Information systems are built by managers to serve the interests of the business firm. At the same time, the organization must be aware of and open to the influences of information systems to benefit from new technologies. The interaction between information technology and organizations is complex and is influenced by many mediating factors, including the organization’s
structure, business processes, politics, culture, surrounding environment, and management decisions. Information systems can change social and work life in the organization. The organization will not be able to design new systems successfully or understand existing systems without understanding they own business organization.
Information system help the organization by improving communication to optimizing the supply chain. Information can help managers communicate with all the employees more efficiently enable technological innovation on products, minimize warehouse overhead and streamline distribution. Furthermore, information system also help the business process by help all the department in the organization to communicate.
Other than that, information system also help the business daily operational work efficiently and effectively in the organization by used to make the work easier and faster within the company. 36. 1)Information systems can help organization to achieve operational excellence when the organizations use the enterprise system. Enterprise system aim to correct the problem of firm not having integrated information. Also known as enterprise resource planning systems (ERP). Their main goal is to bridge the communication gap among all departments and all users of information to create together in single systems. For example, if production enters information about its processes, the data are available to accounting, sales and human resources. If sales and marketing is planning a new advertising campaign, anyone and anywhere within organization will have access to information.
Firstly, organization can use the business value of enterprise systems. In this case, when the organization have a business value in them company, the changes in the enterprise will be tremendous. For example, in management. Organization will improve management decision making, with a comprehensive view of performance across all functional areas. Other than, organizations more efficient operations and customer-driven business processes. All functional areas can focus more on the customer and respond to product demand more efficiently. And the last of the business value of enterprise systems is a more uniform organization. A more disciplined approach to business throughout the entire firm, regardless of physical location and organizational structure.
Secondly, organization can use about the supply chain management systems. A supply chain is includes all of the internal functions of an organization, along with suppliers, distributors, retailers and customers. They are all intertwined and rely on information from each other to effectively meet the business’s objective. The supply chains have a network of organizations and processes for procuring raw materials, transforming them into products and distributing the products. For example, upstream supply chain for firm’s suppliers, supplier’s suppliers, processes for managing relationship with them. And for downstream supply chain is are the organizations and processes responsible for delivering to customers.
Other than to achieving operational excellence is organization must know about the demand-driven supply chain. Demand – driven supply chain have four demands. It’s a push-based model (build to stock).schedules based on best guesses demand. Second, pull-based model (demand driven).customer orders trigger event in supply chain. Third, sequential supply chains. Information and material flow sequentially from company to company. And the last is concurrent supply chains. Information flow in many directions simultaneously among members of a supply chain network.

  37. Information System is any combination of information technology and people's activities using that technology to support operations, management, and decision-making. In any business organization, data is the most important thing. Different type of information is produced from data. When the amount of data is large, it becomes more difficult to process manually. In order to get quick results and timely information, an information system is used in almost all organizations.
Information Technology .Departments sometimes selected enterprise application integration (EAI) technologies. Order is very much required, but lack of order and lack of standards characterize the current environment.
Technology and Pc-Based .To achieve improvement in productivity and yield by pushing processes closer to operating constraints. Over the years has been the emergence of PC-based tools for a variety of functions, including data analysis and Microsoft excel for examples, are used widely in many plants.
The ERP Systems have indeed achieved benefits in operational excellence, but they have also incurred large investment costs. Costs so large, in fact that companies today reluctant to repeat the experience. The ERP systems have also established some important standards which customers expect suppliers in the manufacturing space to emulate. Integration Technologies and Standards are solving to the complexities of the integration of different business systems.

  39. Information system is any combination of information technology and people's activities that support operations management, and decision making. Optimise, integrate, informate enable operational excellence. Optimise remove bottlenecks and improve operation which leads to reduction of time in carrying out processes, reduction in costs of inventory and admistrative expenses like printing and reduction of errors. Again getting timely credible information, which informate helps in getting overall process view across functional areas and enables better allocation of resources by the operational managers. Also having one set of common data which, integrate reduces time for data entry and retrieval and costs associated for joining different legacy system to get information, thus allocating resources for 'real' business processes and thus increasing productivity.

Other than that, infrastructural benefits such as IT maintenance costs reduction, reduction in data entry errors, and flexible IT infrastructure. Besides that, managerial benefits which better control on operating processes and hence making better decisions, thus increasing operating margins.

Well-engineered systems also help to achieve operational excellence. The history of engineering traces a direct link between society's reliance on systems with regulated and professionalized engineering. IT is moving into the realm of systems that support life and safety issues.

Lastly, IT systems incorporate an appropriate level of security which includes confidentiality which data that is protected from unauthorized access and use, integrity which accurate and complete data, and availability which data is available when needed and privacy which confidentiality and integrity of information related to individuals.

As businesses grow, the amount of data also increases. As a result, it becomes more difficult to process this data manually. With the use of Information System, data can be processed with rapid speed and information is generated quickly. To run a business successfully, effective and timely decision-making is very important. This decision-making is based on the information we get from the stored data.
An Example : Take for example a bottling line that has the capability of filling 10,000 bottles a day, but like the majority of packaging lines actually achieves about 50% of its potential on average. The production manager wants to see the throughput data and the reasons why the machine is falling short. The operators on the other hand need to see alert messages as why the machine has just stopped and what action to take to fix it. The cause may be a specific mechanical failure such as a jam up, lack of product or one of many things. The production manager will be interested to discover that the mechanical failures only amounted to 8% stoppage time and another 5% due to lack of product. He will also notice that the main reason the line did not perform is because nobody pressed the start button when the machine was ready to run!

This example shows that Information systems can be powerful tools for business. The key is having current data converted to useful information and having that delivered to people who can act upon it before it’s too late. If the information is delivered too slowly then it is only a lesson learned rather than profitable opportunity.

  50. HOW information systems can help organizations.

    Visibility and Empowerment

Process manufacturers must provide users across the organization with meaningful, real-time visibility across systems and operational silos to better contribute to organizational goals. In many cases, this requirement has meant leveraging new applications and technologies, such as web-based technology. Web-based technology brings new possibilities to operations.

    (a) It enables all Operations personnel within a plant to see one “version of the truth,” thereby helping to overcome an organization built on silos. It encourages collaborative decision making and optimization of operations on a broader basis.

    (b) It can also support this “version of the truth” vertically, and not simply horizontally, within an organization. Supervisors, managers, and operators can all be provided with appropriate operational views to help them to make better decisions.
    Integration and Standards

A typical process operations environment consists of many systems, each of which contains important data. However, these rarely-integrated systems are connected with a variety of point-to-point interfaces, or may even be comprised on standalone spreadsheets for a small set of users. The biggest challenge for point-to-point integration is the need to adapt to change. A change in an application can affect a number of interfaces: the ripple effect can be large and expensive. A new, more flexible solution that copes as the business and information requirements change is fundamental in enabling operational excellence. Any new approach must also cope with the practical realities of integration in modern environments: namely environments which are distributed and where networks and applications occasionally fail.
Business and Operational Alignment with Scorecards and Dashboards
Most Operations personnel working in a large plant do not have little idea of the official corporate strategy. Nor do they know how they can best maximize their contribution to that strategy. Similarly, visibility of operational performance between the corporate and business levels is often very poor. A score carding system (perhaps based on a balanced scorecard approach) can be very effective in making performance visible, thereby forcing an emphasis on visibility of performance targets and actual performance and encouraging an environment of increased accountability.
To achieve operational excellence is a suite of software applications, Aspen Operations Manager, has been developed in order to fulfill both the technical and human requirements of achieving operational excellence. This suite is available today and can be implemented to provide process industry companies with capabilities that fulfill the demands of the steps outlined above.

  55. Information Technology .Departments sometimes selected enterprise application integration (EAI) technologies. The information system used to identify enterprise systems and their use in business. 65. Organizations can achieve operational excellence by applying the enterprise applications. An Enterprise application consists of Enterprise Systems and Enterprise Software.

Enterprise systems aim to bridge the communication gap among all departments and users of information within the company. Anyone who is in the company's organization will have access to data that has been processed, such as accounting, sales, and human resources.

Enterprise software allows every functional area to share every process and every piece of data. A business can select specific processes in specific areas but eventually everything the company does will be shared across all lines. The software uses predefined processes and requires the company to adapt itself to the software. For examples, the uses of UBS software in the organization of the company.

  68. Information systems is fully supported decision making, coordination, and control. To achieve the key goals of operational excellence, management must establish requirements that are clear and appropriate for their intended purpose. The second step is to communicate these requirements to employees through meetings and training sessions. To ensure compliance with communicated requirements, continuous assessment is needed to determine compliance levels, verify actual practices, and test the requirements' effectiveness. The principles of the defined operational excellence cycle apply to all organizations, regardless of structure. Quality improvement systems can contribute to operational improvements, but they cannot eliminate operational costs arising from deviations and nonconformances caused by human error. In order to grow in today's competitive business environment, companies must eliminate unnecessary operational costs. This means management must recognize the organization's strengths and weaknesses and be committed to continuous improvement.
